NFAR PARENT'S GROUP
Zoom Virtual Meeting
Wednesday, Oct 14, 2020
6:30 - 8:00 pm

Topic: Person Centered Planning

A paradigm shift has happened. The principles of person centered planning are now considered the essential foundation for developing an individual’s goals for the future and the steps to get there. Learn the essential principles such as Person Directed planning, and Person Centered Thinking practices. Join us to learn how you can help prepare your son/daughter for a fulfilling life based on their strengths, preferences and needs. More than a plan, it is a dynamic process that is outcome based. Person Centered Planning is also a requirement for Self-Determination participants that will be available to all in June 2021.

Guest Speaker: Pamela Kerr, M.A., Education Consultant, Transition Specialist and Person Centered Planning Facilitator

Pam is the proud mother of two sons. Her eldest was diagnosed at 20 months of age with autism. Pam went back to school in order to better understand and assist her son, graduating Cum Laude from SDSU in Psychology, and earned her Masters w/Distinction Degree in Special Education Transition with an emphasis in Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. During this time she received training in Person Centered Planning and research in postsecondary options. For over a decade, Pam has helped individuals and families while working at the Exceptional Family Resource Center and with the San Diego Unified School District. Her focus has always been on thinking creatively on how to best support individuals and their families and has worked to develop greater postsecondary opportunities. To that end, Pam has received ongoing training in Person Centered Thinking practices and as an Independent Facilitator through State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Pam is recognized as a PCP Facilitator for Self Determination with San Diego Regional Center, and has helped individuals realize their dreams through this creative process.
