February Topic: Are You Struggling to Connect With Your Child? How Simple Adjustments in Your Communication Can Lead to Emotional Connections.

One of the first supports utilized in a Relationship Development Intervention program is a specific type of communication known as experience sharing communication. We will take a closer look at experience sharing communication, including gaining a better understanding of the channels of communication between verbal and nonverbal. We will also discuss how these same strategies can be used to support our partners/ spouses. Additionally, we will discuss the reasons for heavily focusing on this type of communication providing practice exercises and specific tools attendees can take away and try.

Guest Speaker: Brooke Wagner, M.A., RDI® Program Certified Consultant, CEO Therapeutic Approach to Growth, Inc.

Brooke Wagner, M. A. has supported individuals with special needs both locally and internationally since 2000. Brooke believes in a supportive and comprehensive approach and, therefore, uses a variety of methodologies based on her past experiences when providing recommendations.

Brooke holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Santa Clara University, a Masters Degree in Human Behavior from National University, and is an RDI® Program Certified Consultant. In addition, Brooke is an RDI® supervisor through RDIConnect in Houston, TX. In this role, she guides and supervises RDI® consultants in training through their supervision requirements. She has also received extensive training and experience in developing and implementing comprehensive programs utilizing RDI®, ABA, Floortime, PRT, PECS, How Does Your Engine Run?, Handwriting Without Tears, Social Stories, Touch Math, and TEACCH.  To learn more
