Sensitive Santas Make Season Greetings Easier for Children with Autism

It often can be difficult for families of children with autism to enjoy some of the holiday celebrations and traditions most people take for granted — including simple things like sitting on Santa’s lap in a busy shopping mall. This year, several malls across the US are hosting special Sensitive Santa events for families of a child with autism. No crowds. No bright or flashing lights. No loud noises.

“This is so great,” father Bob Sullivan said, watching his autistic son Shane interact with Santa. “He’s never done this before. This is one to remember.”
