October 8, 2009 – NFAR's Teacher's Workshops brought over 120 parents, teachers and professionals together to learn about different strategies for teaching students with autism. Four different workshops were offered and presenters shared their experience and practical tips for video modeling, token economy systems, activity schedules as well as maintaining positive behaviors in the classroom.
Workshop A
Video Modeling – Not just another thing on the television screen.
This workshop offered examples of video modeling in classroom and home environments, how to make and implement the video modeling intervention and how to help you become comfortable with using this technique.
Workshop B
Token Economy Systems - Presented by the AEFCT team
The AEFCT team included clinical director, Maryann Le, and clinical supervisors Tami Pace Maerkle and Kelly Montiel. The workshop offered an understanding of how token economy systems work, why they are a great way to promote positive behavior and how to implement these in the classroom.

Activity Schedules – Effective for use at Home and in School
In this workshop, participants learned how to use activity schedules to teach independence to students with autism.
Workshop D
Increasing Positive Behaviors in the Classroom – Beneficial methods for Parents and Special Education Teachers
This workshop addressed how behavior works and how to shift from reactive to proactive responses, and additionally how to create an environment for managing behaviors to increase learning opportunities.
